Trust Deed

Back in 1997, the General Gumala Foundation Trust Deed was signed to protect the vision of the Elders and ensure the long‑term wellbeing of the Banjima, Nyiyaparli and Yinhawangka peoples of the Pilbara. It is a comprehensive legal agreement between the Gumala Trust (Gumala Investments Pty Ltd) as Trustee, Gumala Aboriginal Corporation as Manager, and the Traditional Owners of the three language groups.

What the Trust Deed Does

The Trust Deed is the rulebook for the Gumala Trust. It sets out our roles and responsibilities, and defines the Income Utilisation Categories (IUCs) — the areas where Trust income can be allocated to improve the lives and opportunities of our Beneficiaries.

Why It Matters

Understanding the Trust Deed is important, because it guides how we work, what we do, and why we do it. Every program, service, and distribution from the Gumala Trust is shaped by the Trust Deed, ensuring fairness, accountability, and transparency.

Looking to the Future

The Trust Deed also safeguards resources for future generations. It ensures that the Gumala Trust not only supports Beneficiaries today, but also protects funds for tomorrow — and for many tomorrows to come.

Transparency and Accountability

By following the Trust Deed, the Gumala Trust operates with transparency and accountability, so Beneficiaries can be confident in how funds are managed and decisions are made.
